Let me share what I do with my business. When I am hiring staff to join our team we use a George Foreman approach. You should do this too when you are hiring your own people for your small business outsourcing team. You should do a step by step method on how to grill your applicants so you can get the best player out of that list.

First of all you need to get really clear on who it is you’re looking to hire. You want to know who is the person who would be perfect for fulfilling that role. Then you need to write the job ad and make sure that we tailor that job ad to attract the right person to help us do these SEO services. You need to have the right bait to make sure that you get the right fish. Then you need to advertise the position in websites like JobStreet. Then we’ll do prescreening of resumes. Once we start to get the flood of people coming through, what do we do to screen through those people?

I just use my own list of questions just to get the hiring process going and encourage them to respond. I have to make sure that they are good in using the English language and have the skills we need. We provide them with a task to accomplish, so that is another test for them to pass. I am doing this step by step until I get close to have my A players then pick the best candidate.

After they complete the task, then we go to a Top Grading style interview to find a virtual assistant. Brad Smart’s book called Top Grading definitely is worth reading. It’s all about the process for asking questions and making sure that they’re ticking certain boxes. It’s very much a step by step method.

You need to know what it is that you want to get done. There is no difference between working online and working offline. Online businesses and offline businesses really should be treated the same. A lot of people think for some reason because I’m working with an online business, that the rules are somehow different.

If you look at offline businesses what do they do? Before they hire, they make sure that they write an appropriate job description. They make sure that they write what it is that needs to be done. They’ve got a step by step process, but a lot of people when they go online, don’t do that. Get really clear on what it is that you want to have done and how long will it take as well?

You also have to plan their week ahead before they start working for you. Make sure that their tasks fit the job description that you initially rolled out as they are going to be working on your small business outsourcing team for the first week. These details are included when you watch my outsourcing training DVDs. Make them as busy as possible, but be careful of assigning tasks just to keep them productive.

Another tip is for you to concentrate on giving them something that you really need to get done, and let them do the work for you. Focus on the outcome and not on the task itself. I have been through that before and it affected their work in my SEO company.

It is best to map out their activities for the week while you go ahead and write their job description. You have to be sure of your expectations with them and take time to inform them of these details as soon as you can.

In the end, there are some important qualities that we are looking for those who want to join our small business outsourcing team that you just cannot teach. I can give instructions and tips on how to rank websites using our SEO method, but there are just some skills you cannot teach. So it is highly recommended to get someone who is honest enough to do these tasks for you, because it is important especially in a virtual business like what we have.
