If there is one thing that I want the applicant to know during the interview, is that he will not get rich from the salary that I give him. But he will really get a lot of good resources by working for me. This is what my staff knows as well. This works for me because eventually I find virtual assistant to finally decide to work for me.
I am the type who will tell everything they need to know on how my SEO company works. I also share that I even help my staff get to their online businesses rolling even outside of work hours. I want them to succeed as well and that is why they also find it great to work for me.
One thing to keep in mind though, and I’m finding this now, when you do that, just be careful that the bait you’re using for the fish that you catch, I have been hiring very entrepreneurial people. Just recently we’ve had quite a few staff move on because they’ve moved on to bigger and better things. That’s something I’m learning in the bait that I wrote when I write job ads. Maybe that’s something I’ll look to change but also that’s the way I like to do things. I like to have people develop and grow and then preferably, over time, we grow together. So that’s how you write the perfect job ad.
Employees have told me that they actually really enjoyed the process of selection when they hire virtual assistant, the actual interview process that happens. All the tasks I give they have enjoyed doing and so I guess that is why they’re still with me as well. They felt like each step tested their skills, it made them realize they wanted the job, what they wanted to do for me and where they could take it. I was receptive to it, so it was a win-win.
Where to advertise your job ad is another important consideration. This is how I do it. First, I look at my virtual bench. This is a group of people I have worked with for the past few months. They did little jobs for me and they have also referred and recommended people. These are the types waiting for the opportunity to arrive.
I don’t just hire and find virtual assistant to help me in doing SEO services. They’re sitting on my bench and I don’t just hire them because they’re an A player. I wait first for the job role to emerge and then I make sure that I plug them into it.
A good area to ask is your team members as well. Ask you’re A players, so ask other staff members. Often people swim in the same circle as other A players. If you’ve got a B player, they’re probably going to recommend other B players. But if you’ve got lots of A players, chances are if they recommend someone, they’re swimming in that same school of fish. What you can do is tap into that resource.
Another way to do it is to offer something extra as a reward for recommending the right person. As soon as he gets in our team, that’s where I give the reward. That also helps them to think of the right person to recommend, as well as let them assess if that person is fit for the job.
I use Jobstreet.com when I am looking for a person to hire in the Philippines. They have great work ethics, very honest in their dealings as well as responsible and creative players. A lot of internet marketers already experienced getting a staff from the Philippines and are thankful that they have found these people. One thing to take note of, is to pay them above average than they would get from another internet marketer. I do that because I want them to enjoy working for me and be their best choice as for their employer.
If you know SEEK or Monster in Australia, then it is the same thing just like Jobstreet in the Philippines. They allow employees to post an ad for those who might be interested to work for you. Also, there’s bestjobs.ph but I’m a bit awkward to recommend it for people outside of the Philippines to hire staff there because of the recent changes they made.
JobStreet is a really good place to go to find virtual assistant. It is price prohibitive for some people. It’s not just one of those job ads you place it and it’s $5. It’s $120, but for me to hire an A player, I don’t mind paying $US120 or $US140.
